bio:
Since moving to New
York in the 1980's, I have been involved in many aspects of the
music business: performing, touring, recording, producing, studio
ownership, and contracting.
As a studio owner, contractor, and producer, I learned the meaning
of efficiency and quality work. As a musician and private instructor
with wide ranging experiences and tastes, I have sought out a
concept that freely incorporates experimentation and innovation
without sacrificing focus and fluidity.
Programmed drums, loop-based sampling, and triggering have become
commonplace across the music spectrum. I see both programming
and playing as a "live" event. The challenge is to create a rhythm
track which sounds and feels uniquely appropriate to the music
at hand, yet which can be easily manipulated, edited, or re-recorded
as fits today's production and studio demands.
Altering acoustic drums and percussion instruments (or sticks)
and using different mic setups has proven to yield some great
results.
Further blurring the lines between acoustic and electronic percussion,
tools like Ableton Live, Battery, BFD, midi controlled analog
filters, smaller
systems, and better audio converters have changed the playng
field.
What used to take hours of studio time and experimentation can
now be set up and captured quickly.
It
is my goal to keep
exploring, learning and sharing; to reconnect with the
ideas and inspirations
that were instrumental in my coming to New York originally.
